I have garnered no additional information on the future Saint’s history after being assigned as her attendant. Not that I expected to do so – she has demonstrated no relationships, friendly or otherwise, with anyone among the Enforcers.

I have claimed my aspect is a nebulous “enhance the aspect of others” ability, which perhaps is what got me assigned to my target in the first place. I have used this explanation in the past as it is nearly impossible to measure the effect objectively. I can also trust my manipulations – either of those I work with, to actually improve their understanding of their aspect, or those I need to report to – to disguise its absence.

This has given me the perfect excuse to ask more about Alys’s aspect under the guise of learning more about what I may be assisting her with. The more I know, the more I can help.

Alys has a focus in Concentration, and interact with something she calls potential energy. From her word, everything that exists has a certain amount of energy within it. She can concentrate this energy into a smaller area, which ultimately results in, more or less, spontaneous combustion. I’m sure her aspect is more nuanced than her description, and has more interesting applications, but this is all she was willing to volunteer.

Her description of potential energy seems similar to the Soul. I will treat the two as analogous for my theorizing.

Could Alys treat multiple independent entities as a single system and combine the energies of all of the component pieces, creating an even large combustion (or explosion)? Does her aspect also include the ability to disperse energy, or equalize it? If not, can she keep the energy contained instead of releasing it in a combustion? What is her endurance in doing so? How fine is her control? Is she able to focus on a part of a whole and concentrate the energy of, say, a limb without affecting the entire body? How much of her aspect is based on her own understanding of her target, and how much is inherent within the aspect itself?

If her aspect is even half as powerful as I suspect it is, and if it becomes even more powerful as she gets excited, she appears to be just as dangerous, if not more so, as RedDwarf. Considering how much trouble he was to destroy, I don’t think it’s worth letting her live long enough to garner more attention.

The Commander has ordered us on special assignment, along with a small contingent of the most elite troops. While the specifics are classified, I have discovered it involves the king’s eldest son and something called a “turning ritual.” The mission will commence within the week, and it appears they were waiting on the new recruits to finish training as there are a handful of them being included on most of the teams.

While this may present the perfect opportunity to take care of Alys, especially if she separates herself from the others, I suspect that I’ll have to keep an eye on my own continued survival. If this is as important a mission as it appears, it’s probably they were waiting on new recruits to be included solely to take the blame for failure. We are, for now, disposable.

I will not pass up an opportunity should it present itself. But I doubt I’ll be able to seek it out.

Instead, I shall be on my guard.
